I am an inspiring writer, the mother of four beautiful children who through their love, support and uniqueness have inspired , mold and helped me in being the mom I am.. I am a grandmother who finds so much joy in being just that, and I am a great grandma. Never forget your roots and never forget the importance of family in your life.
I was raised by my grandmother, Merlan Kendle in Asbury Park New Jersey. She taught me about being a woman and showed me her strength in the midst of hard times but mostly she made sure I knew about Jesus Christ. I can remember all the times when church came first. Youth ministry, choir, usher, Sunday school and so much more. These were not an option in my day but a household requirement. This is where and how my Christian journey began. She was a God-fearing woman who taught me the principles of family and life. She is no longer physically here on earth, but she resides in my heart and I have so many memories of her that are embedded in my mind.
I graduate from Asbury Park High School in 1973, got married and had my first born the same year. I continued my adult life, made many mistakes, pulled myself up and decided after having four children and becoming a divorcee that I had more in my life to accomplish. I went back to school at the age of 26 and received my degree in Fashion Merchandising from Brookdale Community College . I went on to gain a bachelor’s degree in Business Management from Monmouth University in Long Branch, NJ. All I can say is what a journey this has been. Sleepless nights, college, working and being a single mom of four not to include any other activities I was involve in put a toll on my life. But I know through the grace of God , determination and the will to fight is how I made it through and accomplished what I did .
I am a member of United Fellowship Baptist Church (UFBC) where the Reverend James H. Brown, Sr is my Pastor. Through the years at UFBC I became a member of the trustee board, have served in the choir, the food ministry and in the women’s ministry. I have had the opportunity to attend various churches and denominations but UFBC is where I have grown through the biblical teaching. As my pastor would say” we are not a perfect church” but we are a bible believing church who love the Lord. There is an abundance of love that overflows here at UFBC that is so amazing. As we lift up his name, magnify and glorify him we invite you to join us to celebrate the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords. You can find us at unitedfellowshipchurch.org.
After many years of heartbreaks and wondering if I was even worthy of getting married again, I met Victor Forbes. One of those old school men who is compassionate, opens the door, carries the bags in the home and waits for me as I shop. He is reserved, soft spoken but once you get to know him, well that's a story for another time. In 2015 we married and if anyone knows me you know I will keep it real. I would never profess that it has all been perfect as we all have our ups and downs. It has been challenging after being single for a very long time. I will say that through prayer, communication, more prayer and compromising it has sure made married life a little easier.
I want to use my god given gifts which I have sat on for a long time to encourage and or inspire women as we walk through the journey of life and experience similar situations. We can uplift enlighten, encourage, support and do so much more. Our struggles are real and what we have experience, how we dealt with it and how we have grown from it will enlighten others. I am finally ready to share mine. I pray as I walk in this new venture that you will walk with me too.
